AED Volunteers Needed

The Meeting Place is planning to install AED machines – Automated External Defibrillators – in the building. But we need to identify people who regularly attend meetings to volunteer to be trained to operate the machines. If we can identify a list of volunteers, we will have a better chance of getting grant funds to buy one or more machines at no cost to The Meeting Place. Our 12-Step programs save lives from addiction every day; with AED machines we may be able to save lives from heart attack, as well.

Snow Removal

You may have noticed is snows a bit in Nebraska, and at this point we rely on volunteers to shovel the snow. The board of directors of the Meeting Place has considered hiring a commercial service to scoop the snow, but we’ve decided the $1,000 or more that would be required for the winter can be put to better use elsewhere. So if you need volunteer community service hours, or if you are simply service-oriented, please consider coming a few minutes early or staying a few minutes late to scoop and spread salt. But we’re wondering if there could a better way.

The Blower Brigade. We’re looking for members who own a snow blower to volunteer to form a brigade who would contact each other during each snow event and decide who in the brigade can get to the Meeting Place to clean the walks. This way, not every one would be on duty for each snow event. Without the Brigade, we’ll continue to rely on individual members to scoop the walks by hand. Why it’s important – first, it’s the law; and second, we want to avoid having anyone slip on the ice. A few years ago, someone slipped and sued the Meeting Place. Our liability insurance paid the claim, but our insurance costs skyrocketed. We really need your help.

Board Member

The Meeting Place is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization governed by a set of bylaws and the Board of Directors. The meeting that you rely on to help you get and maintain sobriety exists only because this organization exists. Most Board Members are members of one of our 12 Step Groups and have at least two years of sobriety. The basic requirement is that you bring your experience, strength and hope to our monthly Board Meetings. At this time, Board Meetings are held the last Tuesday evening of each month at 7:00 p.m. on the third floor of the building.
